Another “Yale is Hogwarts” Moment

Last Saturday was the highly anticipated Freshman Screw: The Yule Ball. Yale has always been compared to Harry Potter and it’s not hard to see why! Freshman Screw is steeped in tradition. The most exciting of these is that suitemates set each other up with blind dates. On the night of screw, you must find your date in a unique and quirky way. It was so much fun setting my other suitemates and friends up. There are countless stories of people dressing up in weird costumes to find their match, such as Thing One and Thing Two. One of my friends followed a trail of her favorite candies to find her date. I, on the other hand, was not as creative and found my date in the library, when we decided to go with one another a week before.

Probably one of the most fun parts was getting ready in my suite. We ordered pizza to the dorm and blasted music, as we all got dressed for the dance. Before the dance, the Freshman Counselors (Frocos) in each college hosted an event. The Pierson Frocos had a fun photobooth and pizza party. Even the heavy snowfall wouldn’t stop us, as we trekked to Commons our dresses and snow boots (truly a hilarious sight).

We danced all night long, only taking breaks to take photos at the photobooth (my personal favorite). It was great to see all my classmates and everyone looking truly amazing. Freshman Screw is really a Yale tradition not to be missed. It is such a fun way to meet new people, while also having fun with old friends.
