Sophomores Favorite Extracurriculars

One of the best parts of my Yale experience so far has been my extracurriculars. From working in labs to working in theaters, I have found so much joy and fulfillment with this part of my time at Yale. In my experience, sophomore year is when people have their footing and really commit to extracurriculars. In light of this, I decided to ask a few of my friends who are in their second year about their extracurricular experiences to highlight the breadth and depth of activities that Yalies do.

The CubeSatellite Team, a branch of the Yale Undergraduate Aerospace Association.

Name: Henry

Major: Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science

Extracurricular Involvements: Yale Undergraduate Aerospace Association, Davenport Pops Orchestra, Yale Club Running, Code Haven, Engineering Tour Guide, FOOT Leader, Computer Science Undergraduate Learning Assistant

What’s your favorite extracurricular and why?: I would say Yale Undergraduate Aerospace Association (YUAA). It’s fun to get together with people with similar interests and to build cool things like rockets and satellites.

The Yale TaeKwonDo Team.

Name: Ketty

Major: Anthropology

Extracurricular Involvements: Volunteer at HAVEN Free Clinic, Immigration Director for Migration Alliance at Yale, Climbing Team, TaeKwonDo Team, Weaving Club, FOOT Leader, Morse College Aide, Yale Institute of Global Health Faculty Network Fellow

What’s your favorite extracurricular and why?: I love them all for different reasons, I really enjoy everything I do. HAVEN works a lot with underserved populations in New Haven, especially the immigrant community which is something I’m really passionate about academically. I also love climbing and TaeKwonDo though because they’re a great way to destress. I also love everything Morse.

Yale Undergraudate Chamber Orchestra

Name: Adam

Major: Music and Humanities

Extracurricular Involvements: Yale Undergraduate Chamber Orchestra, Yale Literary Magazine

What’s your favorite extracurricular and why?: Yale Undergraduate Chamber Orchestra (YUCO) because it’s a really inviting musical community. Everyone’s there because they want to be but we’re still constantly pushing each other (still friendly though). They also feature new music which as a composer is something I love to participate in.

A recent Morse College Council meeting

Name: Jenesis

Major: History of Science, Medicine, and Public Health

Extracurricular Involvements: Moot Court, Mock Trial, research assistant in a neuroscience lab, front desk attendant at the Yale University Art Gallery, tutor for local middle school students, Yale College Council Senator, Morse College Council Vice President

What’s your favorite extracurricular and why?: Morse College Council because I feel very connected to the community and it’s very easy to see the effects of the events that I plan which is nice. It’s generally fun and a good time.

Through my extracurriculars I have met some of the most passionate, dedicated people that are all working towards a common goal or interest. For me this is part of what makes Yale truly special and I know that all of my friends feel this too.
