My First 200 Days at Yale: In Pictures

This past Sunday marked my 200th day at Yale. I know that before I came to college it was difficult for me to conceptualize what the college experience would look like; what kinds of things would I do every day, what would vacations and trips look like, what special events could I go to? In the two hundred days since move-in, I have been able to experience all of this and more so I selected 10 photos that I think nicely summarize my first two hundred days at Yale.

This first photo is from two days after I moved into Yale ;I took this picture on a walk with a couple of friends. For me this photo represents how exciting it is to move in to Yale and how excited I was to finally be on campus.

This is a photo of the stacks which is where I spent much of my time studying during the first month or so of school and where I still study now from time to time.

This is from the very beginning of the Harvard-Yale game, one of the most iconic Yale traditions. You can’t tell from the photo but the stands got so full and it was the biggest gathering of Yalies I had ever seen.

This photo is from the first year holiday dinner which is a University-sponsored event for first years. They bring a ton of food into the Commons and it’s one of the biggest social events of the year. The holiday dinner was so much fun and a great way to end first semester.

This picture is from the Davenport Pops Orchestra concert. D-Pops is a completely student-run group, and this is from their holiday concert which happened right before winter break. It was so great to go see them play in the beautiful Davenport common room!

This photo is from the very last night I was on campus before I left for winter break. I took a walk all around campus and ended on the top of science hill with this view. This reminds me how big Yale’s campus is and it was really great to see all of campus that I have come to call home.

This is a picture just steps outside of my residential college, Morse, showing the first big snow of the winter. This reminds me of all the craziness of the first snow including a shutdown of the dining halls and a big first-year snowball fight in the Morse courtyard where our Head of College handed out chocolate and Morse scarves.

This is a photo of me working on some research work in Elm Cafe which is in the basement of the Schwartzman Center. Research has been a huge part of my second semester experience and I’ve found that the café is a great place to dig through scientific articles and work on spreadsheets.

This is a picture from the senior thesis show I was the assistant lighting designer for, A Few Good Men. Theater has been a huge part of my Yale experience, especially this semester and being able to see the performance in person the other weekend was really rewarding.

This is a picture I took just a couple of days ago on Cross Campus. As the spring rolls in and the middle of the semester arrives it is clear that campus is kind of coming alive and it’s so nice to see the sun shining and people outside on Cross Campus again!

While a picture is worth a thousand words, I definitely can’t fit my whole Yale experience into just a few photos. However, these pictures offer an impression of what my life has been like so far; a combination of academics, extracurriculars, and exploring campus and New Haven at large. I’m so excited to see what the next 1,100 days at Yale bring!
