Jeopardy: Yale Edition

I’ve always wanted to be on Jeopardy. I’ve always been a trivia buff. That’s why when Jeopardy came to me, I knew I had my chance.

Yale’s Asian American Cultural Center (AACC) hosted their Jeopardy with a twist - Asian American Jeopardy. We had to get into teams of three to participate. With the added incentive of a $100 Amazon gift card for each winning team member, I formed a team with my friends Davis and Frances.

This game’s theme was really interesting to me. Categories were based all off of things related to Asian Americans, including Yale Alumni, History, Media, Politics, Food, and Sports. Jeopardy really got me thinking about the many unique ways Asian Americans have made an impact. For example, just from Yale Alumni category, I learned that Indra Nooyi is an Indian American woman who is the CEO of PepsiCo, and Gary Locke is a Chinese American man who was the governor of Washington and the US ambassador to China.

Even though I was simply having fun playing the game, it really got me thinking that I am a part of something much bigger. It made me really proud to be an Asian American from seeing all of the strides and accomplishments of Asian Americans being showcased as Jeopardy answers. Asian American Jeopardy was a really fun way to learn knowledge outside of the classroom and get together with my friends. My team didn’t end up winning the grand prize, but we still received $10 Starbucks gift cards for participating, which is pretty awesome. It’s awesome to know that things like this happen at Yale on random Thursday nights. After the big success, more Asian American Jeopardy is being planned for the future. I can’t wait!
