Frequently Asked Questions about Bulldog Days & Bulldog Saturday

When should I plan to arrive on campus for Bulldog Days or Bulldog Saturday? When should I plan to depart?

Bulldog Days: Official Bulldog Days programming begins at 2:00pm on Monday, April 15 and ends at 2:00pm on Wednesday, April 17. Students may arrive late or leave early; there is no check out. Registration on Old Campus will remain open until 11pm Monday and Tuesday.

Students may also arrive earlier than 2pm Monday or depart later than 2pm Wednesday, but the admissions office is unable to arrange for additional overnight hosting or meals. Please note that the Admissions Office will not be able to store luggage after 2:00pm Wednesday.

Bulldog Saturday: Bulldog Saturday is a structured as an open house. Students and families are welcome to participate in as much of the programming between 8:30am and 7:00pm as they like.

Where will I stay overnight during Bulldog Days?

All Bulldog Days attendees are welcome to request a student host who will welcome you to stay with them in their residential college suite. If you request a host while registering, we will email you their contact information a few days before Bulldog Days. Make sure you keep an eye on your email. If you want to contact your assigned host before you arrive, go for it! You’ll want to touch base at some point on Monday, if not before. We will also have staff at registration who can help you if you have trouble connecting with your host.

May I stay overnight with a friend for Bulldog Days?

Yes. When filling out your Bulldog Days registration form, you will see the question, “Would you like us to pair you with a student host for you to stay with?” Select “No, I have arranged on my own to stay with a student on campus” and list your friend’s name and other information when prompted.

Will I be able to spend the night on campus before or after Bulldog Days?

The admissions office is only able to host students through our hosting program on Monday and Tuesday nights. Please make alternative arrangements if you are arriving to town a day or two earlier or later.

Will I be able to spend the night on campus before or after Bulldog Saturday?

The admissions office is not able to arrange overnight hosting for Bulldog Saturday visitors. Visiting students are welcome to make their own arrangements to stay off campus or with a friend.

Will I be able to attend classes during Bulldog Days?

Yes. Admitted students are encouraged to attend classes. When you check in, we will give you a schedule of events and a broad list of recommended and open classes to sit in on, along with the times and places that they meet. Select professors will also be offering special Master Class sample lectures just for admitted students throughout the program.

What should I pack for Bulldog Days?

We suggest bringing a sleeping bag and pillow, casual clothes for spring (it may rain or get chilly, so a sweater or light jacket is also recommended), and a cell phone. Please pack enough essential items (medication, toiletries, etc.) for the duration of your time away from home.

What does the Bulldog Days schedule include?

For now, please see our tentative schedule. In the week leading up to Bulldog Days, we will send information to help you get set-up on our Bulldog Days mobile app prior to your arrival. The app will include a complete schedule of over 200 events. You won’t be able to do it all and how you spend your time at Bulldog Days is totally up to you, but we highly recommend our Signature Events, which you’ll learn more about on the app.

Will you be able to store my luggage when I arrive to campus for Bulldog Days?

Yes. Visitors may store belongings at Dwight Hall on Old Campus until 11pm on Monday. More information will be available at registration.

Will I be able to talk with a professor during Bulldog Days?

Yes. Professors from most academic departments will be available to answer your questions at the Academic Fair on Tuesday afternoon. For general inquiries about an academic department or major, we recommend contacting the Director of Undergraduate Studies (DUS). Click here for a full list of DUSs by department. You may also email a specific professor using the Yale Directory.

Will I be able to speak to someone about financial aid during Bulldog Days?

Yes. Student Financial Services (246 Church St) will be open for regular business hours during Bulldog Days. You may also attend the Financial Aid Panel to ask general or specific questions about financial aid.

Can family members attend Bulldog Days or Bulldog Saturday?

Bulldog Days and Bulldog Saturday are designed to help admitted students get a taste of the college experience. Most visiting students attend without family members. A limited program of campus tours and informational panels will be available for those family members who travel to New Haven for Bulldog Days, but the events listed on the tentative Bulldog Days schedule are for students only. The full Bulldog Saturday program will be open to students and family members.

Does Yale provide financial assistance for transportation to Bulldog Days or Bulldog Saturday?

Yes. Eligibility is based on financial need, and a completed Yale financial aid award is needed to determine eligibility. Travel must be from within the United States. Please contact the Yale Travel Team at yaletravelprogram@gmail.com with questions. QuestBridge Finalists and other admitted students with a Yale financial aid award that includes an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of $10,000 are eligible, if they will be traveling from within the United States.

Eligible students will receive email invitations on a rolling basis after their financial aid package becomes complete. The admissions office cannot reimburse the cost of flights or long-distance train tickets booked by students or families on their own.

Eligible students who live close to New Haven and are unable to attend Bulldog Days are encouraged to attend Bulldog Saturday. The Yale Travel Program will only book flights for students attending Bulldog Days and staying overnight. Eligible Bulldog Saturday visitors will receive support for train or car transportation.

If you have questions about your financial aid package, you can view the checklist on your Yale Admissions Status Portal or reach out to our Undergraduate Financial Aid Office (phone: 203.432-2700 or webform). Please note that Yale cannot provide travel assistance to accompanying family members.

Can I get a note excusing myself from school for Bulldog Days?

Yes. Admissions staff will be happy to sign documentation confirming your attendance at Bulldog Days. Admissions Officers will be available in Dwight Hall throughout Bulldog Days.

How much spending money should I bring? Are meals provided?

We will provide meal cards for dining hall access for all meals not provided by the admissions office. Meals planned by the admissions office include the New Haven Pizza Party on Monday night, lunch in the Schwarzman Center on Tuesday, and the Food Truck Farewell Lunch on Wednesday. You may want to bring $30-$40 to explore New Haven’s famous restaurants or the Yale Bookstore, but spending money is not required.

What happens in a medical emergency?

Safety is our number one priority during Bulldog Days. At registration students will receive emergency contact phone numbers and information about the Yale Health Center, located at 55 Lock Street, and the Yale New Haven Hospital. It is critical that all students complete the Bulldog Days medical form when registering for Bulldog Days online. Students will be given a copy of this information when they arrive and will need it to be treated on campus.
