Yale undergraduates enroll in a single liberal arts college without declaring a major until after two years. With no core curriculum, students choose every course themselves, with help from multiple academic advisors. Students pursue independent research as early as their first year, contributing to ground-breaking discoveries in medicine, quantum physics, environmental science, and human cognition.
Yale’s most important communities are also its most diverse. Each incoming student is randomly assigned to one of fourteen Residential Colleges: close-knit communities that serve as a microcosm of Yale’s study body for all four years. Each college includes students from around the world who are also athletes, artists, activists, journalists, entrepreneurs, scientists, and civic leaders.
Yale is old, but it is not old fashioned. Students participate in beloved campus traditions spanning centuries, but are just as likely to create something completely new. A restless spirit of innovation fills student organizations and campus resource centers like the Tsai City for Innovative Thinking at Yale and the Center for Engineering, Innovation, and Design.
