Looking back on Fall (break)

Students gathering as a group in front of fall leaves

Midterms. Deadlines. Windy weather. “Catch-up on work”. Words that are equivalent to blaring alarms calling on the stress hormones in your brain. It’s been a non-stop two months at Yale with no finish line in sight - we’re really in the thick of it. After pushing through the challenges, reaching a tipping point in the balance between work and free time, Yale acknowledges the milestone and rewards us with a much-needed fall break, allowing students to take a breather and relax from the daily commotion of being a Yale student.

This fall break, I left campus on Tuesday afternoon immediately after finishing a midterm. I was welcomed with open arms by my friend from New York as her dad drove us to her house where I stayed the night before my flight the next day.

Shout out to Arethusa’s! Amazing car ride snack

At the LaGuardia airport, to my pleasant surprise, I ran into Yale graduate students heading to Houston for the women in SWE conference! What a small world and they were nice enough to let me take a picture. As I flew over Washington, I peaked out the window and saw the colors of fall.

After getting to my final destination of San Antonio, Texas, I went to dinner at a very cute and lively outdoor restaurant area and ate an interestingly sweet fried chicken sandwich. For the duration of the trip, I strolled around the different parts of San Antonio until Sunday, where I went to Austin to watch the F1 Grand Prix.

Nice day at the races!

At the end of the week, I flew back to EWR and took Amtrak which conveniently connects to New Haven. I was back in time for school the next day.
