Meet on Cross Campus?

Cross Campus: informally known as “XC”, the grassy quad is at the heart of Yale’s Campus. Cross Campus is not just a big, open area, but is uniquely so many things, making it one my favorite spots during my past four-ish years at Yale.

This is one of my favorite photos I’ve ever taken.

For starters, Cross Campus served as the Covid-safe meeting spot in the Spring of 2020.

A Covid-Safe hangout featuring my friends Jake and Lucy!

My dear friend Cate took this picture of me!

Cross Campus is like our town sqaure – because it is the intersection of Campus, pretty much everyone passes through it at least once a day. It’s the place for picnics, coffee dates, walks, phone calls, and improtu introductions to friends-of-friends-of-friends. If I had a nickel for everytime I texted or called someone and said “ok, meet at Cross Campus” or “wanna meet on XC”…I’d be rich.

A lovely Spring coffee date with my roommate, Kiki!

So much more than just a centrally-located meeting place, Cross Campus is a place of joy, refuge, and relaxation. It’s the ultimate setting to clear your head - to step out of the Library and take a much needed breath between memorizing historical dates, cramming for a Final Exam or writing a fifteen-page paper. It’s like a little sanctuary of green amongst Yale’s Gothic architecture.

Cross Campus has been the backdrop for some of the warmest and most picturesque days I’ve ever experienced. On the other hand, it has also been a frosty playground for snow days.

September 2021. Cross Campus is the best place to relax.

It is the site to take first day of school pictures to send to your parents….because you know they’re going to ask for them!

My last-first day of school…cue the waterworks

A highlight of this semester has been spending a lot of time on Cross Campus – it brings me such happiness and tranquility. I will miss it!
