On Wednesdays… We have BREAKFAST FOR DINNER

While Mean Girls may have their iconic line of “on Wednesdays we wear pink” stated by the iconic Karen Smith, us Yalies have something even better. For us, on Wednesdays… we have BREAKFAST FOR DINNER. And no, this is not a typo, on Wednesdays, brunch food is served during dinner.

Despite the fact that I always have to complete a P-Set or study for a test, Breakfast for Dinner has made me look forward to every Wednesday at Yale. While Breakfast for Dinner Wednesday is not a biweekly event like Chicken Tender Thursdays, it’s still a beloved tradition that hasn’t received the recognition it deserves, so I’ve decided to dedicate a whole blog post to this meal and why it is so dear to me.

Unlike Chicken Tender Thursday, where the main attraction is the chicken tenders, there is a wide variety of food offered on Breakfast for Dinner Wednesday. From pancakes drenched in hot syrup to scrambled eggs and bacon, I always make sure to load up my plate. This may be a hot take but, in my opinion, brunch food is superior to chicken tenders. After all, Chicken Tender Thursdays are only memorable because of the dipping sauces, not the tenders themselves. Meanwhile, all of the components of Breakfast for Dinner Wednesday are delicious, no barbeque sauce required.

The timing of Breakfast for Dinner Wednesday is also unmatched. Unlike the afternoon, when students are rushing between classes and may not even have time to get food from the residential college dining hall, it’s easy to slow down during the evening. After a long day of classes, students can sit down and enjoy a meal with friends. Breakfast for Dinner Wednesday provides something to look forward to during the middle of the week.

Another thing I love about Breakfast for Dinner Wednesday is the number of people in the dining halls. While some may say that the dining halls are too crowded, I think that Breakfast for Dinner Wednesday results in the perfect amount of crowdedness. Since students opt to sit down and enjoy a meal with friends instead of grabbing to-boxes and will go out of their way to grab dinner during these Wednesdays, Breakfast for Dinner Wednesday is the ultimate way to meet new people. The fact that students are happiest and most approachable when they are well fed is a plus as well.

Last but not least, for some reason, brunch food tastes better when eaten for dinner. I’m sure the recipe that the dining staff uses for the meals are the same. However, for us college students, that is not the case. Perhaps our taste buds magically change on Wednesday evenings but whatever that may be, I am thankful for the existence of Breakfast for Dinner Wednesday.
