Yale in MOHtion Student Fly-In Program
Yale in MOHtion is Yale’s annual student fly-in program for high school seniors. The program centers Yale’s Multicultural Open House (MOH), a one-day program featuring Yale’s cultural centers: the Afro-American Cultural Center (est. 1969), the Asian American Cultural Center (est. 1981), La Casa Cultural (est. 1974), Middle Eastern and North African Cultural Community (est. 2024), and the Native American Cultural Center (est. 1993).
This fully-funded program will allow participants to engage Yale’s cultural centers, student groups, faculty, and resource centers, through panels, performances, showcases, and tours. Participants will also complete a college application workshop and experience Yale’s residential college system. The program will serve 50 high school seniors who would otherwise be unable to travel to New Haven to participate in the MOH.

Q. What is Yale’s Multicultural Open House (MOH)?
A. The Multicultural Open House celebrates the many intersecting identities of Yale students. Throughout the one-day program, prospective students and families connect with the campus resource centers support students of all backgrounds. At the center of the program are Yale’s four cultural centers: the Afro-American Cultural Center, the Asian American Cultural Center, La Casa Cultural, Middle Eastern and North African Cultural Community, and the Native American Cultural Center. The centers serve as a home base for dozens of student organizations, a place to discuss issues of identity and social justice, and as a space where students, faculty, and staff come together to find community.
Q. Can I attend MOH if I am not selected for this fly-in program?
A. Yes. The Multicultural Open House (MOH), scheduled for Saturday, September 27, is open to all prospective students and their families. Registration will open in the late summer.
Q. Who is eligible to apply to Yale in MOHtion?
A. Yale in MOHtion is open to high school seniors who attend school in the United States or its territories. Selected participants must be able to attend for the full program. Preference will be given to students who would otherwise be unable to travel to New Haven to participate in the MOH.
Q. What costs are associated with participating in Yale in MOHtion?
A. The Yale admissions office will cover all costs associated with transportation to and from campus, meals throughout the program, and on-campus accommodations for all selected participants.
Q. What is the application timeline for Yale in MOHtion?
A. The application deadline is July 1. Students will receive an application update by early August via email.
Q. What are the application requirements?
A. The Yale in MOHtion application includes a high school transcript, two short answer responses, and an optional letter of recommendation.
Q. Is a letter of recommendation required to apply?
A. No. Applicants may invite a teacher, counselor, or mentor to submit a letter of recommendation when completing the application, but a recommendation letter is optional.
Q. Are standardized tests required to apply to Yale in MOHtion?
A. No. Standardized test scores are not considered as part of the Yale in MOHtion application.
Q. What should I include in my Yale in MOHtion application?
A. Applicants should use the components of the application to present themselves as authentically as possible. Highlight the communities, connections, activities, and ideas you value most.
Q. If I am not selected for Yale in MOHtion, will there be other opportunities to connect?
A. Yes. All prospective students are invited to join virtual sessions hosted throughout the year. Additionally, a special virtual event for Yale in MOHtion applicants will be offered in October.
Q. Will applying to Yale in MOHtion affect my Yale College application?
A. No. Whether you are selected for Yale in MOHtion or not, applying to the program will not affect your chances of admission to Yale College. Applying to Yale College is free for students who qualify for an application fee-waiver.
Q. What will Yale in MOHtion participants do on campus?
A. Yale in MOHtion showcases Yale’s cultural centers, student groups, faculty, and resource centers, through panels, performances, showcases, and tours. Participants will also complete a college application workshop, dine in a residential college, and staying overnight in a current student’s residential college suite.
Q. Where will students stay during Yale in MOHtion?
A. All participants of Yale in MOHtion will stay on-campus in one of Yale’s fourteen residential colleges with a current Yale undergraduate student host.
Q. What are the expected time commitments for students selected to participate in Yale in MOHtion?
A. Programming will begin on the evening of Friday, September 26 and conclude the morning of Sunday, September 28. Alongside MOH, the majority of Yale in MOHtion programming will occur on Saturday, September 27. Travel arrangements for selected participants will be flexible to those requiring religious accommodations.
Q. Can a parent or guardian attend Yale in MOHtion?
A. Family members and other supporters are welcome to participate in the MOH on Saturday, September 27, but travel funding and accommodations will only be provided to students.
