My Adventures in the "Pearl of Asia": Part I

During the fall semester, I was selected to participate in the Yale University New Asia (YUNA) Exchange Program. It was extremely exciting, especially because I will be going Hong Kong over spring break in TWO WEEKS! I also got to meet amazing students from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and their stay on Yale Campus this January brightened up my days!

What we mean by “Undergraduate Focus”

In the midst of a chaotic midterm season, I found myself seated in an elaborately decorated room with a classmate. But rather than stressing over looming deadlines and late night study sessions, we found ourselves enchanted by scents of the apartment.  We didn’t spend that night cramming for quizzes. Instead, we discussed the Spring Revolution with our professor, the former Egyptian ambassador, over a home cooked Egyptian meal. It was then that I truly realized what the vague phrase “undergraduate focus” really meant.

YAY!

I have a confession. I never exercise. Team sports were never my thing.  After about ten minutes on a treadmill, I’ve reached my running quota for the week. I used to dance, but a knee injury ended that, along with my promising dream of being a professional snowboarder.

Literally, the only sort of aerobic activity I’ve done regularly in the past two years has been walking up Science Hill for class.  I’ve even managed to avoid that by taking the Yale shuttle (or, more realistically, not waking up in time for lecture).

A Yalie in Paris

Last you heard from this traveling blogger, I was discussing the meaning of a deferral (if you haven't seen it, do check it out, and I hope you guys are holding in there).  But behind the scenes, I was also scrambling to finish my papers, studying for finals, packing up my room at Yale, and jumping through hoops to obtain a French visa (French bureaucracy… yeesh) before the 15th of January.

My midterm this semester: A DJ Battle

You heard that right! A DJ Battle!

“Wait, that can’t be a proper course.”

Yes it is! And it even counts towards my Music Major!

“What?”

If you don’t believe me then check out the course website!

If Yoda Alive Still Were

I was watching a Star Wars marathon a few days after I got back from Yale to good old chilly New York City aka my home. I had never seen the movies sequentially, and I was more than happy to devote over 18 hours of my life (over two days!) to see all the pieces fall into place, to see the rise and fall of Anakin Skywalker, the wisdom of Yoda, the mentorship of Obi-Wan. But if there was any one quote—of the several quotable quotes—that stayed with me, it was what Yoda said to Luke Skywalker as he trained young Luke to master the force.
